To convert CGPA to percentage on a 10-point scale, multiply your CGPA by 9.5. This is the official formula recommended by Anna University, VTU, and Mumbai University. For example, a CGPA of 8.0 equals 8.0 × 9.5 = 76%. Some universities use a multiplier of 10 instead — always check your institution’s grading policy.
The standard formula to convert SGPA to percentage in India is: Percentage = (SGPA − 0.75) × 10. For example, an SGPA of 7.5 gives (7.5 − 0.75) × 10 = 67.5%. This formula is used by most UGC-affiliated universities. Some institutions use a direct ×10 multiplier — confirm with your college’s examination department.
To convert GPA to percentage, divide your GPA by the maximum scale and multiply by 100. Formula: Percentage = (GPA ÷ Max Scale) × 100. For a 4.0 scale: a GPA of 3.6 = (3.6 ÷ 4.0) × 100 = 90%. For a 5.0 scale: a GPA of 4.0 = (4.0 ÷ 5.0) × 100 = 80%.
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) measures your performance in a single semester only. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the overall average of all your SGPAs across the full duration of your degree. Your CGPA appears on your final degree certificate, while SGPA appears on individual semester marksheets.
A CGPA of 7.5 on a 10-point scale equals 71.25% using the standard ×9.5 formula (7.5 × 9.5 = 71.25%). Using the ×10 formula it equals 75%. A 7.5 CGPA is classified as a B grade (Good) and is above the average threshold at most Indian universities.
A CGPA of 8.5 on a 10-point scale equals 80.75% using the ×9.5 formula (8.5 × 9.5 = 80.75%). This places you in the A grade (Excellent) category. Using the ×10 formula, 8.5 CGPA equals 85%.
To convert percentage to CGPA on a 10-point scale, divide your percentage by 9.5. Formula: CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5. Example: 76% ÷ 9.5 = 8.0 CGPA. Use the “% → CGPA” tab in our tool above for instant calculation.
Anna University, VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University), Mumbai University, and Bangalore University use 9.5 as the standard CGPA multiplier. AKTU (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University) and some others use 10. Always confirm with your institution’s official examination regulations.
For multiple subjects, add all marks obtained across every subject, then add all total marks. Apply the formula once: Percentage = (Total Marks Obtained ÷ Total Maximum Marks) × 100. Example: Scored 415 out of 500 across 5 subjects → (415 ÷ 500) × 100 = 83%.
